If you can work abroad and do volunteer work it is going to be one of the most rewarding things that you will ever do. There are lots of opportunities to work abroad as a volunteer, for example – you could work in the Peace Corps or in wildlife conservation. Your experience is sure to not only have a huge impact on local communities but also your own future as a human being.

Leveraging the skills that you have in any area can make all the difference in any NGO or NPO. When you work abroad as a volunteer you are not only helping a cause but also you are also learning about a new culture.

Often some causes that are promoted by the developed world really don’t think about the causes of problems and are hell bent on fixing something that is wrong at the end of the line.

An actual example of this is when a friend of mine went to work abroad as a volunteer in Costa Rica to save turtles. When she cam back she told me that it was the actual village people who needed the real help – for them the turtles were their lively hood . The project was trying to solve a problem at the end of cycle and not at the beginning. The next year she took the project on and turned the whole thing around. The project was one of the most successful things she had seen and it really worked on levels that helped not only the turtle population but also the people in that community.

Too much emphasis is placed on celebrities that pretend to work abroad as volunteers only to make themselves look good. There are some however that do truly make a difference – to society and they live and work abroad in countries at their own expense with nothing to gain except for humanity.

When you work abroad as a volunteer you are not just helping out by being an extra body – you are using your education and skills as well. To volunteer to work abroad and not get paid is something that is seen as one of the best human traits that you can have and I know many people that go onto very successful careers or become leaders in areas that companies now days should be in.

The world is looking for people like you to make a difference- you can use what skills you have and develop them to help others. When you work abroad you develop new skills that will be highly valued by many companies. Get a real job! work abroad as a volunteer- show the world what you have to offer!
